CPE 4501 Developing Leadership in Organizations

Some leaders are just born, but in truth, most leaders are made, and they are not made in isolation. Leaders thrive in organizations that support leadership, and these organizations reap the benefits of increased productivity and employee satisfaction.

This course describes various methods and practices that organizations use to foster leadership. The course expands your knowledge relevant to best professional practices and gives you tools for enhancing your leadership skills. At the end of this course you should be able to:

+ Recognize contemporary leadership approaches or styles and describe the links between leadership style and individual, group, and organizational performance.
+ Understand the key competencies identified as important at specific leadership levels within organizations and identify activities that can be pursued by individuals to enhance leadership development.
+ Cite reasons why continuous commitment to workforce development is increasing in importance and why organizations need to focus on public responsibilities and citizenship.
+ Describe the impact that typical frontline, middle level, and executive level leaders have on communication within an organization and practices that enhance employee engagement.
+ Identify the seven Baldrige “Criteria for Performance Excellence” and describe how they might be applied as a framework for leading organizations.
